Bayfied/Madeline Island part 2

This is a beautiful area, full of history which they eagerly share. ...fur traders, logging, hunting, fishing,..... This is in northern WI, about 5-1/2 hours from us.
While we were there the weather was beautiful!!! There are 21 islands, the count had been 22 but the lake is lower and Long Island is now a peninsula.

Friday the bus took the 30 minute ferry to Madeline Island. About 300 people live there all year long and 3000 during the summer. Tourism is the largest industry now. Many of the residents are artists.
We had an excellent step on tour guide.

The old portion of the museum.
I 'needed' to have a photo taken of me standing in Lake Superior.....so....I walked in.....and proceeded to lose my balance and fall in.
We had lunch here and it was delicious.

T
oops!
It happened  so quickly that all I remember is thinking 'I am going to fall', getting wet almost up to my shoulders, and getting out as fast as I could. No, I wasn't hurt and it sure was funny.
Back on the bus my friend helped me change into a dry shirt and I wrapped a towel around my waist. I looked just like I had a towel over my bathing suit.
Another beautiful beach on the island.
Art work.
Toms Burned Down Cafe is a very unique bar.
That place has the most enjoyable signs........I should have taken ore photos...my friend did.

We got back to the hotel early and I played with the $25 the casino gave us. I am not a gambler................I only gambled 2 of the 3 nights and won a a total of $23. Nothing exciting...but that's me.

  1. I wish I could have went there. I have ALWAYS wanted to drive around Lake Superior so I could see all of it. BEAUTIFUL. Thanks for sharing. I wished someone would have video taped you in the water. LOL! So glad you did not hurt yourself.

  3. How could I have grown up in Wisconsin and traveled and camped a lot, and never been to that island? I would love to visit it.
