Singing In The Rain ♪ ♫ ♩ ♬ ♭ ♮ ♯

We weren't exactly singing, but we were in the rain.
It has been so dry here; our lawns are brown, I'm watering my flowers every day, and the tomatoes needed watering twice a day.
We have a nice beach here and one day last week I there for a bit and I realized how much I missed taking the kids and watching them play. So I posted a comment on facebook (I post too much) and I loosely organized a beach day for friends and family. After weeks of warmth and sunshine it rained all day yesterday. ......the day of our planned 'beach day'.....Some of the grandkids from out of town were coming. Mom works and friday was her day off, so I really wanted to have a good day. The morning rain was very light. Due to some conflicts (not of MY doing) I could not have everyone over here....so....I said we'll go to the park....there's a shelter and a little rain won't hurt the kids. I finally convinced everyone to come and make the most of the day.
After all, when I was a kid, we'd put on our swimsuits and play in the rain. We probably did sing??? ♪ ♫ ♩ ♬ ♭  Remember that???

My stepdaughter (from out of town) was meeting my daughter (also from out of town) and picking up her 2 daughters. They live over an hour away, so we plan visits ahead of time. Jessica came with her daughter and the other 2 girls (who are staying for a few days).

Eastin hung up my homemade pinata under the shelter's roof and we pushed the tables out of the way and let the kids whack away. The 2nd time around my 12 year old granddaughter broke it and candy flew out! The kids scrambled!

Since I didn't pack food and the boys and I hadn't eaten I went to the grocery store (about 4 blocks away) and picked up some chicken and potato wedges to snack on. YUM!
After that the kids (except for 1) played baseball in the rain. The adults sat in the shelter and watched. We had to laugh at my 7 year old granddaughter who watches baseball, but has no idea how to play...she'd run to 2nd base and then keep running away. At least everyone had fun.The kids got soaked....it was just water. I wanted to show them rain does not hurt you and you need to make the best of the situation you have before you. And they did!!!

I call this one "old ladies watching the baseball game that is being played in the rain"

Five of our wet, funny faced grandkids after they were finished playing in the rain. Call me a bad grandma if you want...but they were NOT forced to play in the rain and one mom and one dad were there also.

When the kids got tired of playing in the rain (after over an hour) most of us came over to our house. They played games and the adults visited.

Jalen taught a talking stick class. Here's his...he explained how everything he put on his has a meaning.

Grandpa came home to find a house full of wet grandkids.

Jalen was hungry so he made scrambled eggs, 'plated them' with the fork rolled up into a napkin, and served them to the kids who wanted eggs. (He watches too many cooking shows).

Skylar made a sandwich for himself. Some of us enjoyed a piece
of chocolate zucchini cake that Michele brought over. I am so glad everyone had a good day!
Thanks Eastin, Connie, Jessica, Debbie, and Michele for enjoying the day with me and our grands.

  2. Sounds like a wonderful day! I personally think playing in the rain is something everyone should do at some point in life. It is a wonderful experience provided there is no lightning...lol! Looks like you may have a chef in the family! Too cute. Have a lovely weekend.

    Hugs, Vicky

  4. Looks like you had a wonderful time in spite of the rain. Love Jalen's talking stick. Now, I know why you don't need the feathers anymore. Some restaurant is going to be lucky to get him for a chef when the time is right!
